The 2AZ-FE is a 2.4 L (2362 cc) version built in Japan and at TMMK in the USA, obtains a total displacement of 2362 cm³ with 88.5 mm (3.5in) bore and 96.0 mm (3.8-in) stroke, resulting in a compression ratio of 9.6:1. Output is 157 hp (117 kW) at 5600 rpm with 162 ft·lbf (220 N·m) of torque at 4000 rpm. The 2AZ-FE also has one-piece cast camshafts. Output for the 2007 Toyota Camry is 158 hp (118 kW) and 161 lft·lbf of torque. There is also a different version of the 2AZ-FE engine with a compression ratio of 9.8:1 making 161 hp (120 kW) and 163 ft·lbf (221 N·m) of torque, made in Japan for the(2007-2010) Scion tC. A 166 hp (124 kW) version is in the 2006 and newer Rav4. This engine is available for the Toyota Matrix and Pontiac Vibe twins as well as the Toyota Corolla beginning in the 2009 model year.

2GR-FE

2GR-FE engine in the 2008 Lexus RX 350

The 2GR-FE is a 3.5 L (3456 cc) version. Bore remains at 94 mm but stroke is reduced to 83 mm. Reported output varies depending on the vehicle application, but is approximately 268 hp (200 kW) at 6200 rpm with 248 lb·ft (336 N·m) of torque at 4700 rpm on 87 octane (R+M/2). This version features Toyota's Dual VVT-i, variable valve timing on both the intake and exhaust cams. Valves are driven by roller-follower rocker arms with low friction roller bearings, and a unique, concave cam lobe design to increase valve lift over the traditional shimless lifter type system of the 1GR-FE. This increases overall cylinder head height to accommodate the slightly taller roller rocker system. Moreover, the cylinder head is segmented into 3 parts: valve cover, camshaft sub-assembly housing, and cylinder head sub-assembly. As such, this valvetrain is used across all other GR engines with Dual VVT-i. Its service weight is 163 kg.

The Toyota Vanguard is a compact crossover SUV that released in Japan on August 30th, 2007. It is sold in five- and seven-passenger versions and based on the third-generation Toyota RAV4 with a long wheelbase. The Vanguard slots between the RAV4 and Kluger.

The Vanguard is 179.9 inches long and about 66.9 inches wide and comes in both five- and seven-seater versions. It is powered by either a 2.4-liter four-cylinder or a 3.5-liter V6 engine. Its styling, size and engine lineup match those of the long-wheelbase RAV4, with an additional bonus of permanent four-wheel-drive and seven-seat options.

As it is often the case in Japan-only vehicles, the Vanguard comes loaded with high-tech gadgets, including steering-assisted stability control, keyless entry and satellite navigation.

2009 Toyota Wish

Toyota has unveiled a redesigned version of the popular 7-seater Toyota Wish MPV. The Wish goes on sale in Japan first and will probably come to Malaysia soon.

In Japan, the Wish receives Toyota’s new Valvematic engines. Valvematic is a continuously variable valve timing and valve lift mechanism, while VVT-i which affects timing. The engines are the 2ZR-FAE for the 1.8L model and the 3ZR-FAE for the 2.0L.

The 2.0L makes an impressive 158 PS at 6,200rpm and 196Nm of torque at 4,400rpm (of course the king of the hill is still the Optima facelift’s 163 PS), while the 1.8L units either put out 144 PS and 176Nm of torque or 133 PS and 164Nm of torque. The lower figures are for models equipped with the 4WD drivetrain.

All engines are mated to the Super CVT-i transmission, and some have manual paddle shifting for 7 virtual CVT gear ratios.

2009 Toyota Wish

Fuel consumption is said to have improved and exceeds Japanese 2010 standards by 20% for the 1.8L model, and 15% for the 2.0L model. The 2.0L unit gets 15.2km/l based on the Japanese 10-15 cycle, and the 1.8L model gets 16.0km/l.

In terms of practicality, the maximum luggage capacity has had its width increased by 95mm. The slimmer seatbacks for the seats increase legroom for the rows behind it. Front diagonal visibility is better by attaching the side mirrors to the door panels and reducing the width of the A-pillars. Seat covers have been treated with an anti-mite agent, and the climate control system has the Camry’s Plasmacluster air-purifying technology. The steering wheel is both tilt and reach adjustable.

Both the 1.8-liter and 2.0-liter engines are fitted with "Valvematic", which is a continuously variable valve-lift mechanism that controls intake valve-lift volume and valve timing. The mechanism produces optimum power at all speed ranges and provides advanced environmental performance, while engine and Super CVT-i control tuning emphasizes high response, exhilarating acceleration and increased fuel economy. Consequentially, the 1.8-liter front-wheel drive models achieve 16.0km/l in the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) 10-15 test cycle, with CO2 emissions of just 145g/km. The 2.0-liter models achieve 15.2km/l in the MLIT 10-15 test cycle, with CO2 emissions of just 153g/km.

The 1.8-liter, front-wheel drive models have a fuel efficiency that exceeds the level stipulated in the Japanese 2010 standards2 by 20% and the 2.0-liter models exceed the same by 15%. All vehicles in the series achieve emission levels 75% lower than the 2005 standards under the MLIT`s Approval System for Low-emission Vehicles.

Seven-speed Sports Sequential Shiftmatic transmission-standard on all vehicles in the series-allows the driver to enjoy manual-transmission-like operation, while the adoption of CVT Sport Mode and Dynamic Sport Mode also contribute to exciting driving.

An Eco Driving Indicator that lights up to signify fuel-efficient vehicle operation and an Eco Zone Indicator that shows throttle use aim to raise driver awareness toward environmentally friendly driving and are standard on all models.

TMC employed its Eco-Vehicle Assessment System (Eco-VAS)-an original, comprehensive, environmental impact assessment system-when redesigning the vehicle series. Eco-VAS includes setting targets at the start of vehicle development to help reduce environmentally harmful factors by such means as the balanced reduction of CO2 emissions.

Comfortable, relaxing space with full range of safety features

The Wish Panoramic Live Sound System, which features 10 speakers placed mainly at front, rear and high up in the cabin space make for clear acoustics and a surround-sound audio environment.

The seat covers have been treated with an agent designed to envelop mites-a cause of allergy-related disorders-helping to reduce their activity in the cabin.

The vertical-adjustable range of the driver`s seat has been increased by 15mm. This, combined with use of telescopic, tilt-function steering wheel, makes it possible to easily achieve optimum and comfortable driving position.

The automatic air-conditioner with "pollen-removal mode"-standard throughout the series-also removes dust and other impurities from the air in the cabin, while Plasmacluster®3 air-purifying technology, which fills the cabin with air balanced with an equal ratio of positive and negative ions, helps prevent the propagation of airborne germs, mold and bacteria and aids the creation of a stress-free cabin environment.

The Smart Entry & Start System allows the front doors to be locked and unlocked and the back door to be unlocked with only a light touch on the door handle. The system also features a push-button for starting and stopping the engine.

Front-diagonal visibility has been enhanced by attaching the side mirrors to the driver- and passenger-side door panels and making the front pillars slimmer.

A 190-degree, wide-view front monitor can simultaneously display the ground in front of the vehicle plus the areas to the left and right of the vehicle.

An Intelligent Parking Assist system uses ultrasonic sensors to detect an empty parking space. The system then helps the driver when parallel parking or when backing into the parking space by informing the driver when to turn the steering wheel and where to start backing up.

An HDD navigation system is compatible with the G-BOOK mX telematics service and is equipped with multi-media and other advanced functions such as Map on Demand, which provides automatic map and information updates.

The S-VSC system-standard on all vehicles in the series-optimally balances driving power, steering and braking in pursuit of stable driving regardless of road conditions.

SRS airbags and SRS side airbags for the front and SRS curtain shield airbags for all three rows of seats are standard on all vehicles in the series.

The structure of the front seats, which is based on the whiplash injury lessening (WIL) concept, incorporates Active Headrests that shift to an appropriate position to lessen stress on the neck and reduce the risk of whiplash injuries sustained as a result of a rear-end collision.

The "Global Outstanding Assessment" body construction has been further developed to create an advanced collision-safety structure. In testing, the vehicle was subjected to 55km/h omni-directional, vehicle-to-vehicle collision tests. The vehicle body effectively absorbed collision impact by diffusing it throughout the structure, thereby satisfying TMC`s independent targets for maintaining survival space and lessening occupant injury.

Toyota 1MZ-FE engine

The 1MZ-FE is a 3.0 L (2994 cc) engine. Bore is 87.5 mm and stroke is 83 mm. Output is 168–190 hp @ 5200–5400 rpm with 183–193 ft·lbf of torque at 4400 rpm. Horsepower ratings dropped after the Society of Automotive Engineers implemented a new power measurement system for vehicle engines, Toyota engines rated on 87 octane dropped the most, compared to the same engines used by Lexus rated on 91 octane. It has bucket tappets and was designed for good fuel economy without an overall performance trade-off.

The 1MZ-FE was on Ward's 10 Best Engines list for 1996.

Toyota Racing Development offered a bolt-on TRD supercharger kit for the 1997–2000 Camry, 1998–2000 Sienna and 1999–2000 Solara. Power output was bumped to 242 hp and 242 ft·lbf of torque.

The 1MZ-FE with VVT-i is used in the Avalon, Highlander, Sienna and Camry. Output is 210 hp (156 kW) at 5800 rpm with 222 ft·lbf (328 N·m) of torque at 4400 rpm. Early versions of the VVT-i 1MZ used a dual throttle body, cast aluminum intake manifold, and EGR block off plates on the exhaust manifolds. Later versions used an ABS plastic intake manifold to further weight reduction and decrease cost. These versions may also have drive-by-wire/electronic throttle control.

A new platform allows for an innovative package, providing further expansion of the interior space and improved ingress and egress. Additionally, an extensive range of equipment—including Executive Power Seats for the second row and indirect LED interior lighting—is aimed at creating a supremely welcoming environment. A revamped powertrain, along with enhanced aerodynamics and lightweight technology, allows the new models to achieve ample dynamic performance together with high levels of environmental performance, including, in particular, substantially improved fuel efficiency. The new models also offer outstanding handling and cruising stability, as well as class-leading*2 levels of safety performance, contributing to their status as Toyota flagship minivans.

Vehicle Outline

Alphard for Elegance and Refinement, Vellfire for Power and Innovation

* The Alphard and Vellfire share a common theme of delivering a commanding presence and imparting an impressive high-quality feel based on the Toyota vehicle design philosophy of "Vibrant Clarity". At the same time, while the Alphard pursues elegance and refinement in its design, the Vellfire emphasizes power and innovation, so that the two models strongly present separate, individual identities.

Alphard

* At the front, a "V"-shaped line stretching from the front pillars to the bumper adds dynamism to the front mask, while the elongated large headlights and the dynamic horizontal bar grille make for a high-quality feel.
* The side view of both the Alphard and the Vellfire presents a sleek monoform silhouette rising in a single sweep from the front fender.
* At the rear, a "V"-shaped-line running from the rear pillars imparts a sense of depth while the solid bumper gives the vehicle a firmly grounded aspect.

Vellfire

* The stepped headlights and a horizontally accentuated grille create a distinct impression, while the front mask, which emphasizes the lines flowing to the sides, expresses innovation.
* As with the Alphard, a "V"-shaped line running from the rear pillar imparts a sense of depth while the solid bumper gives the vehicle a firmly grounded aspect. The combination taillights adopt a stepped design using LEDs and clear lenses for a slick appearance.

Package

* The innovative package made possible by a new platform allows for a low overall height, even though interior cabin height has been increased by 10mm (compared to the previous Alphard) by lowering the floor 55mm. Cabin length has also been extended by 75mm, resulting in both expanded space and improved ingress and egress.
* Optimally distributed sound-absorbing and sound-blocking materials reduce road noise and engine noise to create an extremely quiet cabin.

Seating

* The front seat is fitted with a preset driving position system allowing the position of the driver's seat and door mirror to be adjusted to a preset position at the touch of a button. Meanwhile, comfortable heated seats, as well as a power footrest and 4-way power seat for the front passenger position, are among the features that contribute to passenger amenity and comfort.
* Executive Power Seats available for the second row enhance passenger comfort and relaxation by offering large footrests fitted to the back of the seats in front, power leg rests, as well as large headrests and armrests.

Major Evolution in Vehicle Dynamic Performance

* The newly fitted V6 3.5-liter Dual VVT-i (Dual Variable Valve Timing-intelligent) engine, coupled with 6 Super ECT (Super Intelligent Electronically-controlled, Six-speed Automatic Transmission), and the 2.4-liter VVT-i engine with increased output, coupled with Super CVT-i (Continuously Variable Transmission-intelligent), both provide driving performance with power to spare.
* A six-speed Sequential Shiftmatic transmission on 3.5-liter models and a seven-speed Sports Sequential Shiftmatic transmission on 2.4-liter models allow the driver to enjoy a manual transmission-like sensation.
* Optimal shaping of the bumper and spoiler, under-floor parts and other elements improves aerodynamics, while redesign of individual parts has reduced weight.
* In addition to the revamping of the powertrain, improved aerodynamics and weight-reduction efforts mean that, although engine displacement compared to the previous models has been increased from 3.0-liters to 3.5-liter for front-wheel drive models, fuel efficiency has also improved substantially, by around 7%—and by around 20% on the 2.4-liter front-wheel drive models—delivering both generous dynamic performance and high levels of environmental performance.
* A package with a low vehicle and floor height results in a low center of gravity and, together with the wide track and long wheelbase, makes for excellent handling and cruising stability with limited roll and superior riding comfort.
* All vehicles adopt large 16-inch disk brakes on all four wheels, while optimal tuning further enhances brake performance.

Class-leading Environmental and Safety Performance

* Efforts were made to improve fuel efficiency to reduce CO2 emissions. The 2.4-liter, front-wheel-drive models boast a fuel efficiency of 11.6km/l in the 10-15 test cycle outlined by the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MLIT) with CO2 emissions under the test cycle just 200g/km, achieving fuel efficiency that exceeds by 25% the level called for by the Japanese 2010 standards*. Both NOx (nitrogen oxides) and NMHC (non-methane hydrocarbons) have been reduced as well, meaning all vehicles have emissions levels 75% lower than the 2005 standards under the MLIT's Approval System for Low-emission Vehicles and qualify for incentives under the Japanese government's Green Taxation System.
* In addition to an Eco Driving Indicator light that indicates fuel-efficient driving, a new Eco Drive Indicator display shows in real time the degree to which the throttle is open and the range of opening the driver should observe for fuel-efficient driving. Together, these indicators aim to help raise the driver's awareness of environmentally considerate driving.
* Toyota employed Eco-VAS (Eco-Vehicle Assessment System), its original comprehensive environmental impact assessment system, to efficiently reduce overall environmental impact throughout the vehicle's lifecycle, from production and use to disposal. Environmental targets were set in the initial vehicle development stage and a life cycle assessment was carried out to help the vehicles achieve a reduction of CO2 and air contaminants.
* A review of the materials, processing methods and adhesives used for interior parts resulted in a reduction in the amount of VOCs (volatile organic compounds) used, thereby also reducing the unpleasant odors emitted from such compounds and achieving the Japanese automobile industry's voluntary goals.
* The S-VSC (Steering-assisted Vehicle Stability Control) system, which is also a standard feature, optimally balances driving power, steering and braking in pursuit of stable driving regardless of road conditions.
* The Pre-crash Safety System uses millimeter-wave radar. When the radar detects a high risk of collision, the Pre-crash Seatbelts provide better initial restraint capabilities for passengers while the Pre-Crash Brake Assist system decelerates the vehicle to reduce the collision speed and contribute to less collision-caused damage.
* An advanced GOA (Global Outstanding Assessment) collision-safety body meets even stricter conditions by incorporating the concept of omni-directional compatibility. Through the use of a body that effectively absorbs collision impact by diffusing it throughout its structure, Toyota satisfied all independent targets for survival space and occupant injury.
* Improvements in the body structure further reduce the likelihood of pedestrian head injuries in an effort to achieve one of the top levels of injury prevention in this vehicle class.
* Seven SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) airbags, including an SRS side airbag for the driver and front passenger, SRS curtain shield airbags that cover the front and rear seats and an SRS knee airbag for the driver, are standard on all vehicles in the two series.
* The front-seat structures are based on the WIL (Whiplash Injury Lessening) concept. Both the driver and front passenger seats incorporate an Active Headrest that shifts to an appropriate position to lessen stress on the neck and reduce the risk of whiplash injuries sustained during a rear-end collision.

The Toyota Sienta is a small five-door minivan with sliding doors sold only in Japan. Introduced in September 2003, it seats seven despite its very small size. It features avant-garde styling that is very similar to the Renault Twingo.
The Toyota Sienta is a three-row, seven seater compact MPV based on the popular Vitz subcompact. Built as a fun family vehicle, the Sienta comes with a distinctly front and a lavish interior.

Powered by a 1.5 liter petrol VVT-i engine capable of 110 bhp (82 kW) at 6000 rpm, the Sienta comes equipped with CVT transmission for smooth effortless cruising. ABS and EBD are standard safety features.

The interior is highly flexible with the seats able to be knocked down in various configurations to accommodate varying luggage sizes. Multi compartments are available in convenient areas of the cabin for easy storage of small useful items. Large sliding doors at the rear ensures ease of entry for passengers.

This is a car commonly seen in Japan, due to its easy maintenance, low FC for MPVs ranging from 12km/l to 16km/l, and its great sliding doors. The car can also be found easily in Hong Kong, most of them there were parallelly imported.

The Perodua Kembara was launched in 1998, and as one of the cheapest 4WD SUVs in the market, it took the lion’s share of the SUV market – 60% by 1999. The Kembara’s successor – the Perodua Nautica 4WD was launched today and Perodua seems to be approaching it differently, bringing it as a premium product imported from Japan (a first for a Perodua) with only one variant priced at RM89,900 OTR with insurance. While the Kembara took 60%, Perodua only intends to take 5% of the current SUV market, with sales of about 150 to 200 units monthly.

The Perodua Nautica is essentially a Perodua-badged version of the short wheelbase Daihatsu Terios/Toyota Rush. The front bumper and grille is different, and these along with the rear bumper are made locally in Malaysia, while the rest of the car comes completely assembled from Japan. For lighting, you get foglamps and projector halogen headlamps while the rear brake lamp cluster use conventional bulbs.

The chassis is based on a derivative of the Toyota Avanza platform but has additional reinforcements to make it 30% stiffer than its derivative models. The suspension design consists of MacPherson struts at the front and a live axle at the rear.

The longitudinally mounted 1.5 liter DVVT engine is the 3SZ-VE producing 109hp at 6,000rpm and 141Nm of torque at 4,400rpm. This engine is also found in the Rush and Avanza 1.5. It is mated to a single overdrive 4-speed automatic, and a full-time 4WD system which has a centre differential lock which can be activated from a button on the dashboard. It locks so that the front and rear axles rotate at the same speed.

The shifter for the 4-speed automatic is located in a more conventional position between the two front seats, unlike another more premium-looking design which is available which positions it at an angle more towards the dashboard, allowing it to be much more closer to the steering wheel so that hand movements between the steering wheel and shifter is minimal.

Time for some dimensions – the Perodua Nautica weighs 1,200kg, is 4115mm long, 1695mm wide and 1740mm high. Interior space is 1800mm long, 1385mm wide and 1240mm high. The width between the front passengers is 700mm, and seat height is 740mm. The wheels are 16 inch alloys with 215/65R16 tyres. The cargo area takes 380 liters, and the rear seats can be folded down for more luggage capacity.

Additional niceties include electrically adjustable and flipping wing mirrors and a multi-info display on the meter panel which displays a clock, average fuel consumption, external temperature and remaining travel range.

One of the first few cars to feature Toyota’s new Valvematic engine has been unveiled – the new generation Toyota Noah (and it’s more aggressively-styled cousin the Toyota Voxy). The Toyota Noah is a 7 seater compact MPV positioned as a C-segment MPV, similiar to the Toyota Wish. It’s competitors include the Honda StepWGN and the Nissan Serena.

We now have some official output numbers for the first Valvematic engine. The 3ZR-FAE 2.0 liter Valvematic engine puts out 158 PS at 6200rpm, 196Nm at 4,400rpm, and goes 14.2km per liter of fuel used. A non-Valvematic engine is also available – the 3ZR-FE that outputs 143 PS at 5,600rpm and 194Nm of torque at 3,900rpm and goes 13.4km per liter of fuel. CO2 emissions for the Valvematic engine is also lower at 164k/gm compared to the 173g/km figure of the non-Valvematic engine.

Compared to Toyota’s previous flagship 2.0 liter, the new 3ZR engine without Valvematic makes less power – 143 PS versus 147 PS, but the Valvematic 3ZR makes more power – 158 PS vs 147 PS. More details on the new 3ZR-FAE and 3ZR-FE: it is a 1,986cc inline-4 DOHC engine, has a bore and stroke of 80.5mm x 97.6mm, and it’s compression ratio is 10.0:1.
